A total of 15 municipalities, homeowner associations, and nonprofits will receive almost $40,000 for community tree projects from the Delaware Forest Service’s Urban and Community Forestry Grant Program. The program goal is to increase tree canopy, beautify community spaces, and promote the benefits of trees. Grant applicants were required to provide a 50-50 cost share match in cash or in-kind services such as volunteer hours. This year’s grant cycle was highly competitive with funding requests totaling more than $120,000 from more than 30 applicants.
